[space]
[space] [space] Experiencing clarity is special. This morning, Monday January 22nd, is a morning that the Valley is experiencing dense fog. Ironic for me because this is one of the times of my life that I have an idea of a couple of destinations that I want to be intentional about reaching, capable seeing beyond the floor where the last few years has had me looking. I wrote down yesterday that I want to work towards a doctoral degree. My big want is to be able to work within education through aspiring educators and experienced educators to combine theory and practice to do dope work with young people in k-12 public classrooms. bell hooks is someone that has helped me discern the words to describe the space that I have been navigating the last ten years. This being my eleventh year, the words I believe ring the loudest for me, "the classroom remains the most radical space of possibility." I am going to be intentional to find the spaces to write down my experiences in the classroom, K108. I am in my second year at Tempe High, fifth year working in Tempe Union High School District. Tempe High is special because of the people. The floors are gross. One of the four walls being windows is unique. The vibes I have intentionally created in my room are representative of the care and space this all deserves. I have not been able to do this alone. I want to give credit and praise to those around me who have problem-solved, dreamed with, provided protection (both what I know and what I do not know), gave me a hug during and after crying and many more big emotions that have been worked through and will be worked through, probably soon. I am going to use this space to write about our community through my eyes. None of this is by accident. ALL of it intentional and the results will never fully be understood for years... Our community is dope. Our young people are dope. I am blessed to be share K108 with every person who is engaging in this work.

Today, I am grateful for how my house looks and feels for this holiday season.
I was able to get out a couple more decorations and get them set up. I like this candle that is in a bowl with ornaments filled in all around it. I put on Grinch to get into the spirit even more! Today, I am grateful for finally being in a good space to hang up my pictures of my children.
Where the hats are I want to replace with different style frames and more pictures. How dope is my holiday book tree that my daughters built of all my books that were in totes stashed away! The colored lights make my room look cool! Today, I am grateful for my streak!
For 450 days, I have practiced my Espanol. For 450 days, I have practiced spelling, saying, and hearing Spanish. I wonder how long I will keep going!?!?!?! Today, I am grateful for being born!
#36unbothered is my motto this year. This is taken from Booker and his hashtag on reports that happened in the offseason about how last season ended. 36 is 35, Durant, plus 1, Booker. I turned 36 today and this will be the things that I focus on this year. Also, Cibo Pizzeria slaps and is dope! Today, I am grateful for being in a better spot, mentally, emotionally, physically, than I was 2 weeks ago!
I have enjoyed getting into a routine of waking up early Sat-Wed and getting a workout in at the beginning of the day. There is nothing like the soreness that comes from working out. I have a ways to go but the steps that I took to start are some of the most important that I have taken! Today, I was able to celebrate my early birthday with my son and go to our first game this season.
I loved hearing the drums and seeing the hoop dancers at halftime because it was OrigiNativ Night, Honoring Native American Heritage Month. My brother's favorite NBA team is the Minnesota Timberwolves and MY Suns won and snapped their 7-game winning streak! Rally the Valley! Today, I am grateful for being able to feel one of the best nights of the year!
To celebrate my birthday, I love giving my children their yearly ornament that we put on the tree. This year, I got their ornaments from Changing Hands and I went with an Arizona theme and the saguaro. We go to dinner. We went to the grocery store to get Holiday treats, lights. Then, went home to put up the Christmas Tree by the "fireplace" and listening to Justin Bieber's Under the Mistletoe album. I love my children with my whole heart! I love that we started this tradition since my divorce with their mother. Today, I am grateful for being able to wash the dishes that held the food and drinks that nourished my body.
I wish the dishwasher washed completely but here we are. I am thankful. Today, I am grateful for buying new books!
I have a lot to learn and I love buying new books to help me continue on that journey! If you have not read bell hooks, you should! |
