Project Description:
For this project, students will be asked to develop a Driving Question on a topic that they are interested in. The students will then have a majority of our class time to research how major world events, the Russian Revolution, World Wars I and II, Cold War, Independence Movements, throughout the 20th century and early 21st century impacted their topic. Some topics will be easier to see how these impacts while others will require more digging and a deeper understanding. This is what we will have time to work through in class. Mr. Wince's role will be a guide, a brainstorm partner, a resource getter, to facilitate success. Success will look like students demonstrating how their topic was connected to these different world events at different times on different continents.

I. Project DesignEvery student will be asked to develop an open-ended question that they are interested in studying how a specific topic has been impacted by world history events. This is how we may have students researching music, immigration, racism, weapons, poverty, and women's rights. The goal will be for students to be able to explain how their topic and the major world events/concepts intersect throughout our history. |
II. "I am" Statements and Topic ResearchAfter every student, with Mr. Wince's feedback, finalizes a Driving Question for the project, all are asked to develop Need to Knows that would drive their research. A majority of the time in class will be students having time to research, by reading, watching, and listening to many different sources. This could be websites, podcasts, documentaries, articles, social media posts, newspaper articles, ect. The "I am" Statements will help guide students in what areas they need to demonstrate their understanding of World History's impact on their topic.

III. Public ProductLearning process involves showing/telling others about new understandings about a topic. Students are going to be asked to create something to show their learning on their topic. Again, students will have choice and this is something that I know will be different for most students. Ideas for a public product can be a painting, creating a podcast, designing a website, writing a poem/song/essay, creating a model and many more creative ideas. |
IV. Sharing Our LearningThe time and effort our students put into their learning should not only be the eyes and ears of those inside the four walls of our school building. Our learning should extend into our community to make a positive difference. Because of Covid-19, designing a safe opportunity for students to share their learning is a priority. Ideally this would be something in-person but because of the unpredictability of our current situation students will be creating 10 Instagram posts about their learning and we will be posting them to our class Instagram account. Students will also be asked to develop a website that will also demonstrate their learning of their topic.
