Our American Story:
Why Care?

Driving Question(s)

How can you use art to tell the history of America from 1900 to 1950 while connecting it to your own story?

Supporting Questions
World War I - What major conflict have you experienced that has shaped you?
Jazz Age - Roaring Twenties: Contradictions  - What successes have you experienced?  Where do you find joy?  How have you grown/changed from positive experiences
Great Depression - How do you identify and work through times when you are experiencing lows?
World War II - How have your allies, friends and family, helped you through hard times?
Post-WWII/Cold War - How does getting through a conflict create more issues?  When is a conflict resolved, but not over?

Project Description

For this project, you will be asked to engage in the lessons covering the first half of 20th Century American History. These are specifically, World War I, the Roaring Twenties, the Dirty Thirties/Great Depression, and World War II.

With the content that is learned throughout this quarter, you will be asked to think about your life and how your story has developed throughout the years to this point. You will be asked to make connections to how America’s story developed from 1900 - 1950 and how those lessons are still relevant today.

To show your learning and understanding, you will create art to tell your story using lessons from hi
STORY.

Public Product

  • Each student will create their own story using the lessons from hiSTORY.  You can choose from the following options and/or mix/match based on your story and the lesson you are trying to explain.
