Driving Question
How can you create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) applying the Ten Stages of Genocide, using WWII events and others around the world between 1900-1950?
Project Description
The rise of power of dictators such as Hitler (Germany), Stalin (Soviet Union), Toto (Japan) and Enver (Ottoman Turkey) have led to some of the worst human rights violations known to man with committing acts of genocide. The fight of World War II, and eventually the Cold War, was to push back and hold accountable leaders who commit these violations against humanity.
For this project, students will be exploring the 10 Stages of Genocide by Gregory H. Stanton and creating a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to educate others about the "steps" that can and have lead to genocide. We will be learning about World War II and the Holocaust as a class and the students working individually will produce their product comparing the "steps" and their chosen event.
The goal of this project is for the students to be aware of the actions of leaders and governments and be able to create a message that will warn others of how current actions have been played out in history with very negative consequences.
