Project Description
In this project, students are to come up with an idea of how to address a need within our community of Rapid City. Sometimes this is educating the larger population of a problem that a minority of people are experiencing. Sometimes this is working with an established group to meet the needs of shelter, food/water and clothing. The students will drive this learning to demonstrate a specific area that they would like to target for the betterment to those around us. Challenging Question or Problem How can we make sure everyone in our community has their needs met? Expected Learning - Knowledge of different groups working within Rapid City for others - Understanding of individuals that are in need in Rapid City - Applying researched data to support idea - Viewing an issue through multiple perspectives - Empathy vs Sympathy - Rational numbers - Equivalent numbers - Human impact on environment Resources Pie auction will benefit Rainbow Bible Ranch Students fill the need with food drives Sioux Falls group works to end homelessness in the city United Way supports a community with Custer Senior Center The most caring cities in America Proposed Site of Homeless Campus in Rapid City Organizations Cornerstone Rescue Mission Public Product The authentic audience will be decided by the students as they research this topic. |
