Instructions
Throughout the early 1800s, the fight for freedom and abolition of slavery was taking place but we should know and always remember that resistance to the oppressive system of chattel slavery was always happening. For the enslaved the acts of resistance ranged from nonviolent means such as to violent means.
Nonviolent resistance was getting married, working as slow as possible, breaking tools, running away, singing, learning to read and many more ways.
Violent resistance involved obtaining weapons and killing slave owners or being violently subdued when attempting to carry out these actions.
