Gratitude Journal Day 52 - Why I am a Teacher

Today, I am grateful for being a teacher. 

Here are the reasons I am a teacher:

• I need a paycheck to afford a roof over my head.
• I need a paycheck to afford to buy food to not starve.
• I need a paycheck to take care of my kids.
• I need a paycheck to afford activities that bring me joy.
• I need a job to have health insurance.
• I enjoy the schedule of weekends, holidays and 6+ weeks of the summer off.
• A majority of my family is one the teachers schedule.
• I find joy in talking about history, reading about history and having discussions with young people about history.
• I find joy in talking about psychology, reading about psychology and having discussions with young people about psychology.
• I find joy in being in community with colleagues who have a passion to teaching and learning.
• I find joy in providing opportunities for young people to explore different topics and create stuff showing what they have learned and understand.
• I find joy in advocating for the teaching profession and want to leave it better than how I entered it.

I can't believe I am almost done with my 10th year of teaching. Wild.
